Matt Lewis Bio
Matt was raised in Southern Ohio; his mother, a dedicated home-maker and educator raising three children, and his step-father, a hard working Corrections Officer for the County Sherriff’s Department stretching every dollar. Matt also had the benefit of spending most summers and weekends with his father, a Union Organizer. His broad exposure laid the foundation for a diverse understanding.
Matt met his beautiful wife of 17 years, Marie while in High School. Shortly after getting married, they moved to San Antonio, Texas. There he worked as a contractor for a small construction company where he learned hands-on business concepts, but he had a greater desire to serve in the military like his father.
After much deliberation, hard work, and prayer, Matt joined the Air Force in the fall of 1996. Matt served four-years active duty at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota where they had their first two children. He honorably left the Air Force after early promotion and returned to Ohio.
Matt and his family were attracted to Northeast Ohio for many reasons: their oldest son had a heart defect and needed surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, the strong religious community fit their traditional family lifestyle, and there were many universities in the area enabling Matt to finish his bachelor’s degree in business. Matt was fortunate to obtain a job at a telecommunications company.
Matt and Marie’s fourth child marked a monumental event for the Lewis family. Their daughter, Maine, was born with a genetic heart defect which required emergency treatment at the Cleveland Clinic. They juggled the two worlds of caring for the family at home while spending everyday at the hospital. After three months of clinging to life, their baby Maine died in Matt’s arms. The surreal moment was a life changing event for the Lewis family. The family grew closer together as their daughter’s strength lives in them all daily. The detailed story wrote by Matt as the events happened can be read here.
Matt enrolled in college where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2008 from Walsh University in North Canton, OH with a Bachelors of Business Administration. He is currently enrolled in Akron University School of Law and on track to graduate in the top one-third of his class.
Matt and his family live in Beaver Township where they home-school their five children. Matt Lewis believes in his District and wants to see it prosper again. Matt would like to extend his dedication to service from the community and country to the District that he chose to raise his family in.
